I thought it would be best to start with the very verse that inspired the name of this site. I invite you to follow along to my method behind reading and journaling Proverbs 16:24.
There are a lot of different ways to dive into scripture. There are two things I make a point to remember -
1.) start with prayer. Without prayer and asking God for clarity and wisdom we will walk away just as confused as we were before we cracked open our bible. and 2.) There is no wrong way to dive in. (the important thing is you dove.) But might I suggest; give yourself some grace and have some fun. To quote one of my Pastors -- "faith is a journey not an event."

In the beginning (ha, I'm punny) I first like to grab the different translations of the verse --
NIV - Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.
ESV - Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.
KJV - Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
MSG - Gracious speech is like clover honey -- good taste to the soul, quick energy for the body.
YLT - Sayings of pleasantness are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and healing to the bone.

Read The Verse Out Loud
“Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.” Proverbs 16:24
I believe that when I hear myself read something out loud I retain it more. Pay attention to what words you emphasize. If you are reading as a group have each person read the verse out loud. I still find that when I read a verse out loud I feel, visualize and retain the words on a deeper level. So, c'mon listen to the words you are reading -- read along with me and read Proverbs 16:24 out loud. What words stick out to you the most? How do they make you feel? Do you experience any discernment when you visualize applying these words to your life?
“Lord, I pray as we listen to your words in Proverbs that we are blessed with your divine wisdom and hear and feel how you want us to apply this verse in our lives.”

Draw it Out
The time has come to get creative. Meditate on these words and ask the Lord where you need to apply these words in your own life and then journal it out. --- This part of the process is better seen not read.
I hope you enjoyed journaling this verse as much as I did. I'd love to see what you have created. Please tag #HFOS or #HoneyForOurSoul.
